In 2002, St. Peter’s by-the-Sea, its members and the City of Gulfport celebrated the parish’s Centennial. During the yearlong commemoration, parishioners reflected on the past and planned the future. In September, the parish officially marked its 100th anniversary as friends from the community joined members, both present and past, in a grand weekend celebration of worship and partying.
In its new downtown location, St. Peter’s began to grow, attracting a number of young professionals and their families. The budget grew, the music program flourished, the Christian Formation was active and the pews were full. Talk of enlarging the church began.
